Layla joined Abstergo to build Animus machines and broke every rule that slowed her down — her portable Animus, which reads memories from any DNA, is the invention the entire RPG era quietly runs on. Shipped to Egypt on retrieval work in 2017, she ran Bayek's mummy off the books, survived the kill team Abstergo sent, and was recruited by William Miles himself. Her sessions escalated from Bayek to Kassandra — who handed her the Staff of Hermes in person — to Eivor and the Yggdrasil vault; the Staff's power, running on grief and stimulants, cost her Victoria Bibeau by her own hand along the way.
